Strategic clarity matters more than access to AI tools.

Yesterday at Matena, Laurent Acharian from BCG, Marketing Executive Director for BCG X and Global Alliances, presented the latest findings from BCG’s AI Radar 2026 and AI at Work 2026, drawing on insights from several thousand CEOs and executives, as well as tens of thousands of managers worldwide.

Several insights particularly stood out:
 

- AI transformation has become a CEO-level responsibility. 72% of CEOs say they are now the main decision-maker on AI, twice the share reported last year, while half believe their job stability depends on getting AI strategy right.
 

- Investment is here to stay. 94% of organizations plan to continue investing in AI even if they do not see immediate financial returns.
 

- Time saved does not automatically become value created. 42% of frontline employees who regularly use AI save at least one working day per week, yet 66% receive little or no guidance on how to reinvest that time.
 

- Strategic clarity can matter more than the tools themselves. Employees with a clear AI strategy but limited access to tools report greater measurable impact than those with strong access to tools but little strategic direction.
 

- The greatest value comes from redesigning work, not simply introducing more tools. Organizations reshaping end-to-end workflows or inventing new business models achieve both stronger business results and higher employee satisfaction.
 

- AI agents are advancing faster than organizational structures. Their integration into workflows has more than doubled, yet half of employees still lack clear guidance for working in human and AI teams.
 

The central lesson was clear: organizations will not win with AI simply by acquiring better technology. They will win by providing strategic clarity, redesigning work, investing in people, measuring real value, and continuously adapting their operating models.
